SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois House of Representatives voted down a proposed amendment to the state constitution on Thursday calling for an unprecedented increase in the state income tax rate structure to purportedly raise $3 Billion for unspecified government spending.

 

State Representative Ed Sullivan (R-Mundelein), joined a majority of his colleagues voting in opposition to the proposal. “At a time when our economy is sliding into a recession, when working families are having a harder time than ever before making ends meet; paying for record high gas prices and struggling with the burden of high property taxes, the last thing we should do in the State of Illinois is to raise taxes,” Sullivan said.

When flooding, asbestos and toxic mold shuttered a Lake Zurich school last fall, administrators shifted students to a vacant school next door.

A Lake Zurich School District 95 official called the move “overly cautious” at the time. But eight months later, some parents and janitors contend it may not have been cautious enough as this school might also have mold problems.
