SPRINGFIELD – Illinois House and Senate Democrats approved a $59 billion state spending plan for Fiscal Year 2009 on a straight party-line vote on Saturday hours before the statutory deadline for enactment of a budget for the new fiscal year that begins July 1.

State Representative Ed Sullivan (R-Mundelein) joined colleagues in expressing concern over the unbalanced budget that increases state spending by an approximate $2 billion without adequate revenue to support the plan.

MUNDELEIN – Over $76.5 million in state funding has been earmarked for local road and bridge improvement projects in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s new six-year plan, State Representative Ed Sullivan (R-Mundelein) announced today. The plan utilizes federal, state and in some cases local transportation funds to make needed safety repairs to roads and bridges throughout the area.

State Rep. Ed Sullivan, R-51st, of Mundelein, said he does not believe there’s any justification for a pay raise for lawmakers at this time.

“I voted against it because I don’t think it’s the right time for elected officials to be receiving an increase in pay, when everybody else in the working world is looking at a potential recession,” Sullivan said. “You add to that fact that I don’t think Illinois government has been a very good stewards of the state’s tax dollars.

SPRINGFIELD – Stressing the importance of putting the needs of working families and taxpayers first, State Representative Ed Sullivan (R-Mundelein) voted in favor of a resolution rejecting a salary increase and cost of living adjustments for state legislators in the Illinois House of Representatives on Wednesday.

 

“Accountability and transparency in state government is now more important than ever,” Representative Sullivan said. “At a time when hardworking Illinois families are paying a lot more for groceries, when gas is rapidly approaching $4 a gallon, at a time when skyrocketing utility costs and property taxes are making it harder than ever for families to make ends meet; we need to keep our priorities in the right place.”
